In the dynamic realm of Agile project management, tracking tasks and ensuring alignment with overarching project goals is essential.

Understanding the Agile Process and the Role of Epic

1. The Agile Process

Agile is a methodology employed in both project management and software development. It promotes continuous iteration of development and testing throughout the project lifecycle. Moreover, by embracing Agile, teams can adapt more readily to changes, ensure ongoing improvements, and enhance overall project outcomes.

Unlike traditional methods, Agile divides the project into small increments or iterations, each building on the previous one.

This approach allows teams to adapt to changes quickly, deliver value faster, and improve product quality.

2. What is an Epic?

In Agile, you can break down an Epic— which is a large body of work— into smaller tasks or user stories. Specifically, an Epic represents a significant feature or functionality that will deliver substantial value to the end-users.

By using Epics, we can organize work at a high level, thereby providing a roadmap that aligns with the strategic goals of the project. Consequently, this approach facilitates better project management and ensures that every component supports the overall objectives.

Advantages of Using Epics

  1. Better Organization: Firstly, Epics help teams manage and prioritize large volumes of work by breaking them down into smaller, more manageable pieces. As a result, this segmentation simplifies task management and improves workflow efficiency.
  2. Improved Focus: Additionally, mapping tasks and subtasks to Epics helps teams maintain a clear focus on the larger goals. This clarity prevents them from getting lost in the minutiae and ensures that efforts remain aligned with the project’s objectives.
  3. Enhanced Visibility: Furthermore, Epics provide a high-level view of the project’s progress. This visibility makes it easier to track milestones, identify potential bottlenecks, and address issues proactively, thereby contributing to more effective project management.

 1. Map Any Task or Subtask to an Epic

Map Any Task or Subtask to an Epic

Previously, users could only map independent user-stories, tasks or subtasks to an Epic, which limited the ability to fully integrate all levels of tasks with high-level project goals.

With our new update, you can now map any task or its dependent subtask to an Epic.

This enhancement gives you greater flexibility and connects every piece of work, regardless of its size or complexity, to the larger objectives of the project.

2. Automatic Subtask Mapping

The Auto-Inclusion in Subtask Items

Automatic Subtask Mapping

When you map a task to an Epic, the system automatically maps all associated tasks and subtasks.

This automation not only saves you time but also reduces the risk of oversight, thereby ensuring that you consistently align all related work with the Epic. Furthermore, it simplifies the management of complex projects by maintaining a clear structure and hierarchy. Consequently, you can manage projects more efficiently and effectively.

 3. Epic Updates for All Subtasks

Auto-Update in the Task Hierarchy

Updates for All Subtasks

Updating the Epic for a single task is now more powerful than ever.

When you change the Epic of a task or subtasks, the system automatically updates all associated tasks and subtasks.

This feature ensures that the system propagates changes throughout the task hierarchy, maintaining consistency and accuracy across your project.

How to Use the New Features

Linking Tasks and Subtasks to an Epic

  1. Create a Task: Create a new task by entering task details and select the Epic to link the task to it.
  2. Select the Epic: Find the Epic field and select the appropriate Epic from the dropdown menu.
  3. Save Changes: Click on Save your changes, and the task, along with all its subtasks, will link to the chosen Epic.
