To make this process seamless, Orangescrum has launched the Advanced Import (Dynamic Import) feature, allowing you to import your project data exactly the way it exists in your files, without worrying about matching column names.

The Old Way: Manual and Restrictive

Previously, if you wanted to update tasks, time logs, or customer details in bulk, you had to:

1. Download a sample file provided by Orangescrum.
2. Populate it with your project data.
3. Ensure that all column headers match the sample file exactly.
4. Upload it back into the system.

While this worked, it had major limitations:

• If your Excel file used different naming conventions, you had to manually rename every column.
• The process was prone to errors, especially for large datasets.
• It was time-consuming and cumbersome, delaying project updates.

For project managers juggling multiple projects and teams, this was far from ideal.

The New Way: Advanced/Dynamic Import

With Advanced Import, Orangescrum now allows you to map your data dynamically. This means the system can intelligently link your file columns to Orangescrum fields — regardless of what the column names are in your Excel file.

How It Works

Let’s say your Excel file has a column called Subject containing project items. In Orangescrum, the corresponding field is called Projects. With Advanced Import, you simply map Subject → Projects, and Orangescrum automatically aligns all your project data correctly.

This works for:

• Tasks
• Time logs
• Customer details
• Project milestones Or Sprint
• And other project-related data

Now, uploading and updating data is faster, more flexible, and error-free, allowing teams to focus on what really matters — getting work done.

Steps to Access and Use Advanced Import

Using Dynamic Import is simple. Here’s the step-by-step process:

1. Navigate to Settings at the bottom left of your Orangescrum dashboard.

2. Click on Project Settings → Import & Export.
3. Go to the right-most tab called Advanced Import.
4. Click the Upload icon and select your Excel file.

5. After uploading, you will get the option to map each column in your file to the correct Orangescrum field.

6. Once all mappings are done, click Import and preview your project details to ensure everything is correctly aligned.

7. That’s it! your data is now in Orangescrum — without renaming any columns manually.

Pro Tip: Even if your file has hundreds of rows, Advanced Import handles it effortlessly, saving hours of manual work.

Import Epics: New Capability

Orangescrum now also allows you to import Epics, a feature previously unavailable. This helps teams migrate large-scale project structures, maintaining workflows and dependencies efficiently.

Steps to Import Epics

1. Navigate to Settings in the bottom-left menu.
2. Click on Project Settings.
3. Select Import & Export.
4. Go to the Import Epics tab.
5. Download the Sample file provided.

6. Populate the file with your project data, such as:

• Phase
• Activity
• Assigned To
• Start Date
• End Date
• Any other relevant Epic details

7. Click on the Upload icon and choose your completed file.
8. Preview the imported data.

9. Click Import, and your Epics will now appear in Orangescrum.

This feature makes setting up complex projects faster, accurate, and easier for Enterprise teams, especially when managing multiple initiatives simultaneously.

Why Is Epic Import Separate from Advanced Import?

You might wonder: “Why not just include Epic Import under Advanced Import?”
It sounds like Epics could easily be managed there too, right?

Here’s the difference: with Epics, we’ve introduced two exclusive fields that are not part of regular tasks or projects:

• Phase: Helps you outline in which stage or phase the Epic currently belongs.
• Approver: Clearly defines who is responsible for reviewing and approving that Epic.

Because Epics carry these unique attributes essential for higher-level project planning and accountability, we’ve kept Epic Import separate from Advanced Import. This ensures that Epics get the special treatment they deserve and teams maintain full clarity while planning large initiatives.
